TVRI Sulsel is a regional television station established by Televisi Republik Indonesia for the South Sulawesi Province. TVRI Sulsel was established on December 7, 1972, with the name TVRI Makassar. TVRI Sulsel has an office on Jl. Cockatoo 14, Makassar City.

TVRI Sulsel relays 92% of Events on National TVRI and the rest, TVRI Sulsel makes a Special Program for the Province of South Sulawesi which starts from 16.00 - 20.00 WITA, such as the existence of the South Sulawesi Warta Program, etc.

TVRI was established on August 24, 1962 (based on RI Decree No.20 / SK / VII / 61) marked by the inaugural broadcast of the 4th Asian Games at the Bung Karno Sports Stadium. The infrastructure development prepared by the Government at that time was the area of ​​the Senayan sports complex (Kampung Senayan, Petunduan, Coconut Plantation and Bendungan Hilir) and the construction of new roads namely Jalan MH Thamrin, Gatot Subroto, Semanggi Bridge, to TVRI to support the broadcasting needs of the tournament.

TVRI's presence was prepared in less than ten months. Occupying the building which was originally designated as the Information Academy Campus - Ministry of Information of the Republic of Indonesia, at the Pemuda Gate - Senayan Jakarta, broadcast programs are prepared, packaged and broadcast using a terrestrial network. Then, the next phase of development outside Java, including Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. Thus, even a quarter of a century, television broadcasting infrastructure has spread almost all over the archipelago. Chronologically the status of TVRI of 1963 was in the form of the Television Foundation of the Republic of Indonesia (TVRI) based on Presidential Decree Number 215 of 1963 concerning the Establishment of the Television Foundation of the Republic of Indonesia. It is the oldest television station in Indonesia and the only television that reaches all regions of the Republic of Indonesia.

Entering the Reformation era along with the liquidation of the Ministry of Information, through Presidential Decree No.355 / M / 1999 concerning the Formation of the National Unity Cabinet, the legal status of TVRI floated. In 1976 TVRI changed its status to UPT (Technical Implementation Unit) under the Ministry of Information. However, the Minister of Administrative Reform through Kepmen No. 01 / KEP / m.pan / 1/2000 (5 January 2000) assigns officials and employees within the Television Directorate and Technical Implementation Units in Jakarta and the Regions to continue to carry out their duties and functions in accordance with the provisions prevailing at that time.

In 2000 the status of TVRI changed to PERJAN (Bureau Company) based on Government Regulation Number 36 of 2000 concerning the Establishment of the Republic of Indonesia Television Service Company on June 7, 2000. After the issuance of this Government Regulation, TVRI gained clarity on its legal status as a service company that organizes television broadcasting activities in accordance with the principles of public television, independent, neutral, independent and its broadcast programs are always oriented to the interests of the community and not solely for profit and organizes public broadcasting business activities in the fields of information, education, and entertainment as well as other related businesses which is carried out to a high standard. Institutionally, it is under the guidance and responsible to the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia. In September 2001, Government Regulation No. 64 of 2001 concerning the Transfer of Position, Duties, and Authority of the Minister of Finance to the Corporations (Persero), Public Companies (Perum), and Bureau Companies (Perjan) to the State Minister for State-Owned Enterprises. With the issuance of PP No. 64 of 2001 Development of TVRI Perjan from the Ministry of Finance was transferred to the Minister of State Enterprises.

The status of TVRI changed to a Limited Liability Company (PT) TVRI under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia and the Office of the State Minister of State-Owned Enterprises after the issuance of Government Regulation Number 9 of 2002 concerning the Transfer of the Formation of the Republic of Indonesia Television Service Company (Persero) on 17 April 2002. Through this Persero, the Government expects TVRI to organize television broadcasting activities in accordance with the principles of independent, neutral and independent public television in order to improve and develop the mental attitude of the Indonesian people, increase public knowledge and intelligence, and further strengthen the unity and integrity of the nation and conduct business in the field of television that produces healthy and high-quality broadcast programs while at the same time being able to foster profits based on the principles of modern and professional company management.

Since 2005 until now, TVRI's status has changed to become a Public Broadcasting Institution. In accordance with Government Regulation No. 13/2005 concerning the Republic of Indonesia Public Television Broadcasting Institution. As public television, LPP TVRI has the duty to provide information services, education, healthy entertainment, social control and glue, and to preserve the nation's culture for the benefit of all walks of life through organizing television broadcasting that reaches all regions of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia.

The first era of TVRI's presence was also interpreted as the Golden Era. Under the umbrella of monopolistic broadcasting policy, in the second half, the news program was packaged in the format "according to Mr. President's instructions." TVRI became the sole medium for government television broadcasting that operates throughout Indonesia. Since the status of the TVRI Foundation, up to the Television Broadcasting Technical Implementation Unit under the Ministry of Information, a "top-down" model information dissemination policy was applied. By utilizing analog television broadcasting technology through foreign equipment grants, the TVRI crew was able to present non-news programs with excellence. Moreover, it is supported by a wealth of arts and culture, ethnic and social diversity as a source of inspiration, so that is the key to the success of the program. During the monopolistic era, the original appearance of the TVRI logo was rectangular. Then undergo metamorphosis into a pentagon. There have been three logo changes in this era so that the average change occurred in less than ten years.
